Colonial Secretary's Office,
Hongkong,
5th June, 1925,
With reference to my letter of even mmber
Fnal. 1.) of the 15th May, I am directed to enclose copies of a
memorandum drawn up by me on the subject of the action to
be taken regarding the German Missions in Hongkong.
The proposals in this memorandum have been
approved by the Government and I think they have already
been considered by the Trustees.
I was informed by Dr. Pearce on the 2nd June,
when you came with him to this office, that the trustees
desired to have an arrangement regarding the escupation by
the Ying Wa Collage of the large building on the Rhenish
Mission land, similar to that proposed for Ebenezer, and
there is no objection on the part of the Goverment to this
provided a fair rent is paid.
Er. Pearce also mentioned that he was doubt-
ful whether it would be necessary or practical to appoint
trustees to administer the Basel Kission affairs pending the
disposal of such portions of the property of the mission, as are not required for the work of the mission in the Colony, and to safeguard the interests of the Hakka Congregation and other dependants of the Mission. I shall be glad to hear what is decided as regards this, but I sai to express the opinion of the Government that it would be
desirable to make some such arrangement.
The Reverend C. B. Shann,
The Secretary,
German Missions Trust.
I am, &o..
(sd.) Claud Severn,
Colonial Secretary.
